The credit value of a qualification can be used to determine how long it will take a learner to achieve, as one credit corresponds to 10 hours of learning. These hours are made up of contact time with a teacher/assessor, referred to as guided learning hours (GLH), and non-contact time for study and assessment activities.

Notting Hill College uses a number of assessment methods to ensure that all requirements of the qualification can be met.

Notting Hill College takes a holistic approach by giving learners the opportunity to demonstrate several assessment criteria from different units at the same time. Academic referencing e.g. using quotes from text books within learners’ work is a requirement at level 4 and level 5. Learning journals are a good way of documenting progress and achievement, but are not a formal requirement.

Assessment methods for this qualification include:-

  • Assignments & essays
  • Case studies
  • Checklists
  • Observations
  • Online assessments
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Professional Discussion
  • Projects
  • Questions – written and oral
  • Reflective learning journal Self-evaluation and action plan

Assessment Decisions

It is the centre’s decision as to whether a learner can submit one copy of a draft for informal feedback prior to formal assessment.

All completed assessment activities must be graded pass, refer or fail.

Pass

A learner achieves all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria at the first attempt.

Refer

A learner can be referred if they do not meet some or all of the criteria at the first attempt. Centres must have an appropriate referral procedure in place as part of their Assessment Policy. Records must be maintained of all referrals, subsequent actions, and achievements.

Fail

It is very rare a learner will fail an assessment activity, as they should be referred first with the opportunity to resubmit and/or be reassessed.

However, it is possible for a learner to fail if they do not take the assessment seriously. For example, submitting a totally inappropriate response to a written task, or delivering a dangerous or inappropriate session with the learner. Records must be maintained in case of an appeal.

My passion for teaching brought me to Notting hill college.I thought I could anyways teach as I had the required fluency for the language  but after having studied here I think it would have been difficult otherwise. I feel,I am ready to unfold my journey into teaching.I now have the required knowledge & accurate conceptions of teaching a foreign language which will make my work easy henceforth.

Anju Geidwani

AnjuHi, this is Anju Geidwani. I am one of the students for TESOL Diploma. I thank Notting Hill College for fulfilling my aspirations as a qualified and efficient teacher. Now, I enter and leave the class with confidence and a smile.

Ms. Diana Almahariq

My name is Ms. Diana Almahariq. I joined Notting Hill College at RAK for TESOL – Theory and Methodology. It made me confident and inspired me to be a more dedicated teacher. Now my lessons are more effective and I am a competent teacher!

Susan Pilch

unknown-personTeaching is all about overcoming obstacles and finding solutions. After some years each and every one of us, teachers, needs a breath of fresh air and new ideas to be able to carry on. In NHC I found al I needed - creativity, support and a great, full of passion vision of teaching. Thank you for that. After taking a course with you I do feel renewed and stronger. And filled with brand new resources and ideas for my current and future classes.

Songlang

SonglangThe advanced TEFL course was really helpful to me. From this course, I realised that besides having accurate knowledge of the language itself, being a teacher also needs to consider the seating, lassroom decoration, blackboard and varieties of activities. Although I didn't give an English lesson, writing lesson plans enabled me to get a taste of being a real teacher. Besides, having only one month left in UK, it was unrealistic to enrol to a school, and this course was exactly what I needed -- useful and flexible. It helped me to make full use of my time and have another precious experience. Once again, thank you very much for helping me with the course! I hope more and more people will benefit from NHC!

Rana Eraki

It couldn’t have been easier for me to register for an online TESOL Diploma with Notting Hill College. I found a simple website to browse, perfect materials to go through and an affordable course price. I was pleasantly surprised about the quality of the course. The experience I gained improved my teaching skills and change my whole teaching perspective. It was really interesting and a beneficial experience.

Amanda Eiklor

My experience with Notting Hill College was excellent! I honestly didn't know what to expect before signing up because I had never done any kind of online course before. I highly recommend anyone looking for a TEFL certificate program to choose Notting Hill College. I intend to look into what other programs are available to continue my education in the future.

Virginia Ndhlukula

Virginia-Pic1The Certificate course has met my expectations above and beyond what I initially set for the course. I am confident I can teach any TEFL class successfully. I do not know how I was even teaching without knowing everything I learned in this course. It was a very organized and efficient way to learn. Not only was the content so rich, but also the Lesson Plans and the quizzes provided me with real growth and left me with plenty of things to think about.
