Student Absence & Lateness

STUDENT ABSENCE AND LATENESS POLICY AND PROCEDURES

Lateness Notting Hill College understand that unforseen circumstances such as illness or personal issues may, from time to time, mean that you experience difficulties in attending class, or in arriving on time. We ask, however, that you please follow the procedures outlined below, as far as possible:

ABSENCE OR LATENESS WITH PRIOR KNOWLEDGE (12-24 HOURS NOTICE)

If you know you will be absent for, or late to, a class, for example, if you have a doctor’s appointment or something similar, please let the college/your tutor know as soon as possible, and at least the day before your class (12-24 hours notice). This will enable you to “postpone” your tutor-student contact (class) time, and arrange another mutually agreeable date/time, without losing any tutor-student contact (class) time for which you may have pre-paid.

ABSENCE WITHOUT PRIOR KNOWLEDGE (the day of your class)

We also understand that unforseen circumstances such as illness, domestic issues, and other emergencies can occur on the day of your class, meaning you cannot attend at all, or on time. If this happens to you please try, as far as possible, to observe the following guidelines:

If you cannot attend, or will be more than 15 minutes late for a MORNING class, please leave a voice message on 0161 637 5960, or text/phone 07951 714953 (Tim Catterall, Director of Studies), between 8.30 and 9.00am, and, if at all possible, no later than 9.00am.

If you cannot attend, or will be more than 15 minutes late for an AFTERNOON class, leave phone or text one of the above numbers between 12.00-12.30pm, and, if at all possible, no later than 12.30pm.

UNAVOIDABLE LATENESS (transport):

Sometimes, despite your best efforts, you can be let down by transport delays or cancellations, especially if you are travelling into Manchester from another location. Please call/text the above numbers as soon as you know the cause/extent of your delay, giving an estimated time of arrival as far as possible. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU PLAN, ALLOWING ENOUGH TIME TO TRAVEL, to minimise delays.

POLITE WARNING – PRE-PAID COURSE FEES:

If you are absent from, or more than 15 minutes late arriving at your class, and you have made NO attempt to contact us in any of the ways outlined above, any re-arrangement of lost class-time will be at our discretion ONLY, and subject to discretionary consideration by the Director of Studies. It is possible, therefore, that you may lose some of the class-time for which you have paid.

If in doubt, keep in touch!

STAFF ABSENCE: OUR GUARANTEE TO YOU:

In the case of your TUTOR being unavoidably ABSENT, your pre-paid course fees WILL NOT be negatively affected: ALL HOURS you have paid for will be be GUARANTEED. Please note: class-times/dates and/or the tutor available may be temporarily altered in such unforseen circumstances. We will inform you, in advance, by phone and email if any schedule changes need to be made, and will endeavour to keep these changes to a minimum. We will give you sufficient advance notice of any such changes as is reasonable, in any given unforseen situation.
